Overview- We are now three weeks into the STEM program. Last week we finished final productions of resumes. This week in class we will be all over the place. The focus is to complete initial reading and writing assessments. Toward the end of the week the students will begin campaigning for elected seats on the STEM student council.
Monday 9/23/13 - We are shut down in writing today. The students are taking part in reading assessments. More than likely, we will be continuing this process into tomorrow as well.
Tuesday 9/24/13 - Writing is still shut down due to Reading Assessments. Lessons will soon be returning to class!!!
Wednesday 9/25/13 - Today in class the students were given the On-Demand Writing Assessment. We use the results of the assessments to guide our instruction practices for the year. The results are clearly showing that the focus will be on: topic sentences, clear arguments, evidence supporting claims, time management, conventions and organizational structure.
Thursday - 9/26/13 - Writing classes are closed today. Mr. Barkley is still grading and evaluating your writing assessments. I am working with our instructional support teacher to create lessons within the modules to effectively meet the needs of our students.
Friday - 9/27/13 - All Done!! Your children's writing assessments have been evaluated and measures have been put into place in the classroom to address the weaknesses through the delivery of instruction. I did find out that we have a group of very strong evidence based writers. There are some areas that must be addressed as well. I look forward to getting back to the instructional process on Monday!!!
