Overview- If we could sum up the objective with one word, in writing this week, it would have to be: DIVERSIFIED. Classes will meet on Tuesday to continue the Hero's Journey character breakdown of Percy Jackson. On Wednesday, the students will be taking an independent writing assessment focused on comparing Percy Jackson to a character of their choosing. On Thursday, the students will be integrated in Mrs. Santamore's history lessons on Greece. Remember, we are gearing up for the upcoming Greek Fair. Friday, well Friday we won't have your children due to Staff Development.
Monday - 10/21/13 - We did not hold class today. The students were actively engaged in our Monday Morning Meeting for the morning sessions. In the afternoon we continued to prepare for the Fall Festival, which happens to be this Thursday!!
Tuesday - 10/22/13 - The groups worked collaboratively on the Hero's Journey "Character Breakdown" of Percy Jackson. Students were forced to delve deep into the book to extract valuable pieces of information. They then passed the information onto each other to share on their chart. Many students kept up with the reading assignments, which allowed for more student led discussion as opposed to teacher lecture. The purpose of today's lesson was to prepare them for the Written Comparative Assessment being given tomorrow. The students will have to use their group created charts to independently provide evidence based claims and warrants. I wish them good luck tomorrow.
Wednesday - 10/23/13 - Comparative Assessment today! Students worked independently from their charts and organizers to answer a two paragraph essay given to them. The students were expected to compare how Percy and their hero were alike, by providing evidence based claims supported with warrants. In the second paragraph, a claim was required to show how each character was different, and as before, supported with evidence based claims and warrants. Tomorrow we will be in Mrs. Santamore's room working on Greek history.
