Weekly Objectives for 10/8/13-10/10/13

Overview - The main focus in writing this week is in getting the police report drafted and finalized by Thursday.  Students will once again work collaboratively in following a designed Police Report Rubric.  They will have to present their findings and state their recommendation to the Police Chief, who happens to be Mr. Barkley.  Their findings have to show clear, observable and text based evidence, followed by strong warrants that justify their claim of suspicion. Upon conclusion of the writing piece, the classes are then allowed to re-enact the crime scene as they believe it actually happened.  We will record the re-enactments and post them via Blog-Spot.

Tuesday 10/8/13 -  Today, the class was introduced to the Police Report Rubric.  We went over the guidelines, objectives and goals stated on the Rubric.  Students were then trained on how to draft the initial paragraph.  Students must keep in mind that dates, times, names and details are vitally important when filing police reports.  In their first paragraph to the chief, they must describe when and where they arrived at the crime scene, following this they must also describe the crime scene when they first arrived.  Once again, the more detail, the clearer the picture.

Wednesday 10/9/13 - The detectives were hard at work formulating their police reports.  In order for the group to move into the final report stage, they must ensure that each detective is on the same page regarding claims, evidence, time, and dates. They understand that a defense attorney will tear apart a police report if their is one piece of evidence out of place, or if the team of detectives doesn't corroborate their findings.  The motto of this unit is to move forward together.  Their work is quite impressive.  By the end of the day, most of the detectives were on computers working toward the final report.  Personally, I did not think that the majority of students would be meeting their deadline, but apparently teamwork and collaboration produces unheralded results!!  Way to go CSIs!!!

Thursday 10/10/13 - Deadline Day!!!  The investigators are hard at work completing final reports and tying up loose ends.  No pun intended!!  The investigators are learning to work together under pressure and they are truly producing wonderful results.  Anyone interested in reading our police reports can contact me here at school.  We will also be presenting to the Board of Education on Tuesday, October 15th at 6:00 PM.  Your attendance would be greatly appreciated to show how much you supports the STEM program and your child's education.  Once again, they pulled it off.  We had a few unhappy detectives who did not meet their deadlines, but they are learning responsibility and organization at the same time.  Without collaboration and teamwork, none of this could have happened.
