    17. Mr. Barkley September 17th, 2014

    59. Mr Barkley January 24th, 2014 at 9:11 AM.
    60. Students need to begin to collect all necessary materials needed for their experiments.  Some can come straight from home, while others may need to be purchased.  Let's make sure that our students come to school on Monday with a few of these needed items.  As always, please continue to read toward your book goal.
    61. Mr. Barkley January 22nd, 2014 at 11:42 AM

    67. Mr. Barkley January 15th, 2014 at 2:30 PM
    68. Tonight the students are required to continue researching their questions at home, and to make sure that their questions effectively answer their overall hypothesis.  Continue to read for your January book goal.
    69. Mr. Barkley January 14th, 2014 at 10:06 AM
    70. The students who were absent last week due to illness or legally excused were required to turn in their work today.  We are really experiencing a drop in homework being turned in.  When homework is given, there is always an important reason behind it.  We are asking that you, the parent, get involved in the research process with your child at home.  There must be a carryover in order for this program to be implemented successfully.  Students are expected to locate another source tonight, either through the encyclopedia or from an informational book.  As always, please read for your book goal.
    71. Mr. Barkley January 13th, 2014 at 11:20 AM
    72. Students were required to hand in their three pieces of research that they located over the weekend.  Tonight they are expected to continue reading and collecting information from their sources.  The book goal numbers are down for December, which means that students are not reading at home.  Parents, please take the time to ensure that your child is reading.  When we all do our part, the child benefits.  Thank you in advance for your continued support.
    73. Mr. Barkley January 10th, 2014 at 1:37 PM
    74. Over the weekend, your child is responsible for locating three resources that will provide professionally researched information on their topics.  They must use their guided questions to justify the resources.  If they do not have a printer, then they are responsible for writing down the webpage/url and turning it in on Monday.  If they turn in 2, they receive a "0" for a grade.  When they turn in three sources they will receive a "95", and if one of them happens to be an actual book, they they will receive a "100."  It is that simple.   A little bit of research and some motivation will yield a "100."
    75. Mr. Barkley January 9th, 2014 at 12:40 AM
    76. Students will begin to research their topics tomorrow.  They were required to have their topic chosen by today, but unfortunately, some did not.  They must get that done TONIGHT  at home.  Your child's success is a collaborative process between the parent and teacher.  Together we can make it happen, but me must be together.
    77. Mr. Barkley January 8th, 2014 at 10:12 AM
    78. Students created an essay that set up their driving question for the science research project.  At home, we are expecting students to continue to research their topic and get ideas to "nail down" specifically what they would like to study.  They must also continue to read toward their book goals.
    79. Mr. Barkley January 7th, 2014 at 11:43 AM
    80. We have just begun our new projects!!  Students are still required to hand in their book log for the month of December.  I will give them until tomorrow.  Please have your science topics chosen and ready to be covered by Thursday.
    81. Mr. Barkley December 12th at 9:56 AM
    82. Deadline day for the final copy police report!!  Most of our detectives were able to produce results.  As I stated earlier, some are still struggling with the concept of a deadline and feel that things can get handed in when they get handed in.  Unfortunately, in the real world, second chances and extended time are not the norm.  I use the real world scenario in this classroom.  Grades are being effected by the choices of the student, not the teacher.  If work is completed in a timely manner, then students are rewarded with a fair grade.  If they are not, then the student chooses to receive a "0."  There is not an assignment tonight as the students are using class time to reenact the crime scenes at Ernie's Lunchroom.  You could always read toward your book goal, or continue to research topics for the Science Fair.
    83. Mr. Barkley December 11th at 8:23 AM
    84. Today was the deadline for the rough draft version of the police report.  Many students were able to complete the task as they took the time during AIS and after school to ensure the completion of the project.  Others chose to not complete the task and received a score of "0."  Today's assignment is to complete the final copy of the police report.  It is due tomorrow.  No excuses or extra time will be given.
    85. Mr. Barkley December 10th at 8:23 AM
    86. Students are currently working on drafting their rough copies of the police report.  Whatever they do not finish today in school they may take home and complete tonight as homework.  The rough draft is due in class tomorrow.  No exceptions.

Mr. Barkley September 13th, 2013 at 2:05 PM
We do not have any major homework to complete over the weekend.  I am asking that you please check your child's planner to make sure they haven't written in any questions for their resume.  Some students did not know certain phone numbers of employers or addresses.  They also had some questions that only their parents would know.  Once again, thank you for being an essential piece of your child's educational puzzle.

    Mr. BarkleySeptember 12th, 2013 at 2:09 PM
Lucky ducks!!!  No homework for tonight.  I am asking that any back work owed by your child be turned in immediately.  Even though their grade will show "0" they are still responsible for turning in missing pieces.  These pieces of missing work are part of the puzzle being put together.  We don't want our children falling behind.  Thank you.

    Mr. BarkleySeptember 11th, 2013 at 10:38 AM
Today the students began drafting their own resumes.  Tonight for homework they are expected to find and get the permission from two people to use as a reference on their resume.  They must get their permission and contact information: phone number, email address, etc.  The students are not allowed to ask a parent or sibling, not use a peer.  The reference can be a past employer, teacher, principal, neighbor, bus driver, custodian....  The possibilities are endless.  Some students are still not completing their assigned work.  Their grade each day is a "0".  Please remember that we are in this together.  Homework is an essential part of the educational process.  We do not accept excuses.  Thank you.

    Mr. BarkleySeptember 10th, 2013 at 11:17 AM
In class we began building our resumes using an online resource in school.  The students printed out their resumes and will be bringing them home tonight.  Their assignment is to revise and edit the resume using a pencil with your assistance.  We will then use the revised resumes to draft an updated version using technology in class.  Thank you.

    Mr. BarkleySeptember 9, 2013 at 11:44 AM
