Weekly Objectives for 10/6/14 - 10/10/14

Overview - In writing, we will begin wrapping up our work on the Veteran profiles.  Students are now working in the computer lab to produce their final papers.  Lessons will be provided on keyboarding use, and how to use the various tools that Microsoft Windows has to offer.  Students are also being introduced to title pages, subtitles, and acknowledgements.  The final paper is due this Friday by 2:30.  Students may work on their papers at home, and are encouraged to stay after school to ensure completion.

Monday -  10/6/14 -
The classes began wrapping up their profiles in the rough draft section.  We will begin transitioning over to the computer lab on Tuesday.  Today is the final day to clean up any revisions that must be made before moving on.  Please encourage your child to stay after school during the week, or to have them type their papers at home.

Tuesday - 10/7/14 -
The students will be spending the remainder of the week in the computer lab.  They began today by creating a title page with images.  The lesson was teacher modeled to ensure complete understanding.  I walked them through the process of setting up the page, inserting images, changing fonts, and how to bold text.  Many other lessons were provided on keyboarding, but on an individual basis.  We were also able to begin typing the first section of their papers.  Here, the students learned all about subtitles, and how to "section off" each portion of their profile.  Once again, I strongly encourage your child to stay after school, or use a computer at home to finish the assignment.

Wednesday - 10/8/14 -
The students returned to the computer lab and kept plugging away at their final copies.  We were able to even add borders to some papers when they finished.  The final day to hand in all copies will be this Friday, at 2:30.  There will be no exceptions to this deadline.  The students are able to stay after school tonight, and tomorrow in order to complete their tasks.  Next week we are moving onto another unit study.

Thursday - 10/9/14 -
We are continuing to work toward the finalization of everyone's veteran profile.  The kids are learning about new word processing tricks that make their job a lot easier.  It really has been enjoyable watching them play with fonts and different styles to optimize the appearance of their papers.  We will conclude this project on Friday at 2:30.  No papers will be accepted after this date.

Friday - 10/10/14 -
Final day for turning in our papers.  Everyone is moving quickly in order to meet the deadline.  Students really seem to respond to the new challenge, and treat it much like a game.  When children are given a little bit of pressure, to go with their responsibility, they seem to rise to the occasion.  Nice job.  Our veterans will be proud.
