Weekly Objectives for 2/10/14 - 2/14/14

Overview- The Science Fair is upon us.  Three more days to prepare for the competition!!!  The groups are in overdrive this week as they work toward finishing reports, creating poster boards, and finally, delivering oral presentations.  On Thursday, the groups will be judged by various officials from St. Lawrence University, Clarkson, Potsdam State, The St. Regis Mohawk Environmental Division, and various Salmon River Educators.  The students are expected to deliver their scientific results in a 2-5 minute presentation to a panel of judges.  They then must be able to answer various questions that will be fielded by the judges.  Preparation is the key.  They will be working in "critical friend" groups in order to try to stump each other, prior to the judges questions.  We are all very excited, stressed and anxious to get see what our students are made of.
Monday - 2/10/14 -   Today, the groups are spread out over four classrooms, where they are focused on certain aspects of the project.  In my classroom, the students are finishing their research reports and preparing for their presentation.  In Mr. Bish's room, students can be found working on project boards and completing science experiments.  Mrs. Santamore is focused on critical friend groups and oral presentations.   Mrs. Chapman is working on boards and reports.
Tuesday - 2/11/14 - Students focused on finalizing poster boards and began the process of "Critical Friends."  Critical Friends is a process in which groups present their work to each other and reflect back on the positive and negative aspects.
Wednesday - 2/12/14 - Final day to prepare for the fair.  The groups are practicing their presentation skills and putting finishing touches on their boards.  Time to go.  Too much to do!!
